Me tinks maybe someone thought that killing off the Ranger would boost the F-150 sales & it didn't happen!!!! SO, back to a Ranger re-design, rather than give up the market share to Asain rivals, who are likely to jump in & fill the need if Ford management doesn't get off its back side & wake up!!!!.

So what, if some F-150 sales are given up to something called a new Ranger (& no, don't call it an F-100 for goodness sake), the money still ends up in the Ford coffers & the accountants don't care if the money was spent on something called a Ranger or F-150, just that the gold came to Ford!!!!

Those that didn't spend extra for a larger & more expensive F-150, like me, don't want nor need a larger pickemup, if I wanted one, that's what I'd have opted for in the first place!!!!

They had better rethink the carrying & tow capacity too, as I didn't want nor need a wimpy car like truck!!!! I needed a serious, reliable, compact RANGER, that could do some light to mid weight luggin & tuggin & that's what I have, I like it & its doing just fine!!!!!

Would I be interested in something like a 4banger Diesel with some serious low end towing grunt, carry at least as much as the old ranger & yield some award winning mpg, was at least as reliable & low maintenance as the Ranger & still be able to fit into a gararge, heck yes, bring it on & watch em disappear off the show room floor!!!!

If it looks like the blue one in the article don't bother.

With the push by the stricter CAFE mandates a smaller truck makes sense. Ford basically kept the same Ranger with very minor improvements for well over decade and was surprised when sales dipped. They did the with some of their other models.

It is apparent to me that Ford wants to make spot welded together FWD unibodys and highly optioned full sized pickup trucks. And thats about it. A relative of mine had nothing but Rangers for over 20 years and just recently bought a Tacoma. Some people already went to Fords competitors.

There are/were V8 Explorers/Mountaineers - I've never understood why they didn't offer that engine in a Ranger... I think if Ford offered a wider ranger of engine choices, including the diesel and the V8, they would sell...
