OK so this is going to sounds like a very stupid question...
How the H*ll do I find a good junkyard? Is there a posting anywhere on the site with local junkyards that may potentially have ford truck for parts? If not perhaps a moderator could present such and idea to the webmaster? ::wink wink, nudge, nudge::
Oddly enough I blew a tire last night. No spare of course. Had to be towed home *AGAIN* (that like the 5th time in my Ford....yeah remember when you spell it backwards: driver returns on foot, metaphorically speaking) and now I need to go find a tire. Figured I'd hit up a junkyard first but I only know of 2 or so in my extended area and they're usually pretty bare or only have newer cars.
Anyway, just thought i'd check here first to see if there was such a thing. Also, what would they be listed in the yellow pages under? Auto Salvage? Seems I find a whole large amount of salvagers who don't have interest in parting out cars.
All you have to do is go to Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and look up what you need. It relies on people at the yard accurately entering info(garbage in, garbage out) but most of the time it's pretty good. A lot of the little stuff they won't list, but you can get an idea what they have by plugging in your truck and see if they have a front fender. Even though you do not need a front fender, you get a idea of what they may have in the yard by what comes up.
It's also a good interchange info source. You can see what else fits, and some of the options that the trucks came with when it ask's you are you looking for part "a" or part "b ".
Tires from a wrecking yard? What about a used tire store. Most cities have them. Or better yet, a set of NEW tires with a warranty, so that if you a failure in the future you'll be covered.
Id check craigslist before a junkyard. My area one has a set of 35 bfg at on rims with about 70% tread for 500. If i could stuff them id ****** that up.
I scoured Craigslist to no avail. Anything avail the would work, people don't reply or answer their phone. I found a few junkyards I have yet to check out but oddly enough I've know a few people to get used tires mounted and balanced in like new condition for dirt cheap! This one yard has a good reputation.
I'd love new tires but the cost is out of my range right now. I may have to suck it up and buy new if I can't find good used tires but that'll be a last resort.
I find it strange though that when you search for local junkyards theyre not all categorized as "auto salvage" or even listed anywhere. I compiled a list of yards in the southern NJ/Philadelphia area I'll have to share!
