Horrible design, the thin copper becomes brittle from the amps the bulbs pull. Mine broke too. Buy the biggest brightest led's that will fit in the space, just be sure they have leads on them. That way you can pull the wires above the console a wire them in.
More than likely junkyard ones will be toasted too. Once you go led you'll never go back.
By the way the light switches are opposite, as in push driver side button and passenger side light turns on. They're angled.
The older bulbs are soldered onto the socket. You couldn't just replace the glass bulb. You have to get the whole bulb with the socket. I had to solder the leads of the LED onto the socket to twist back into the console.
Make sure that you have the correct polarity going into the LED bulb when you solder. You need to test it prior. Some LED bulbs won't light up if the polarity is reversed.
You don't have to solder the LED's in there. Nicmike, I'll have a bunch of bulbs at the get together if you're gonna be there. The easiest way I've found to do this is get two bulbs from NAPA part # PC579 I believe they are $4 each. Just pull the bulb out and insert the new bulb base and your done.
Okay I just did a quick ebay search and found a few, I'll let you try to get the best price but here is just an example of what I bought a while back.
