First off, what an awesome site. Can't believe I never looked into the forums earlier.I have a few questions about how to get more jam out of my windsor351.It is an 84 with open chamber heads which I am gonna swap out for a set 69 heads, and am gonna cram a set of flat-toppers in it,most likely .030.Do ya thinks this will spice it up a fair bit, also running a comp. cams 280H magnum. Now,looking at the stroker info on these pages, could a person find everything he needs in the boneyard to do this, and what exactly would you need for this?I have two other 351w cranks and rods, and the whole stroker thing seemed to be really interesting to me.Any help and info would be great.
if you want to do a good stroker call flatlander racing. phil will be more than happy to help you. he sells qaulity parts and will not rip you off. forget stock heads for a stroker, you need aftermarket heads to make it breathe
Thanks a million for the replies fellas.I did some research into it a little more, and found a local machinist/engine builder who said to buy a crank as well
"and no, you can't find everything you need in a junkyard... you'll need an aftermarket crank at the very least..."
negative.
if youre working with a 9.5 deck, there are lots of things you can do. take a 400M crank, and have a machinist cut the snout down to windsor specs, then have it offset ground to 4.17. you can use Mopar 6.123 rods, along with easily-found chevy 1.29 pistons. flycut as desired. the 400M crankshaft is extremely strong. there are several guys running in the nines with them right now.
if youre trying to build a 347, you can weld and offset grind a 302 crank, use rods from a pinto 2.3 (need 8, so that makes two motors), and use either chevrolet shelf-stock stroker pistons, or custom pistons.
if you dont have the time, ability, or patience to cut on parts all day, give Dale a call at Pro Power Parts. tell him the goat humper sent you.
you can buy cast stroker cranks for less than it would cost you in time/money/hassle of having stock cranks cut and welded... a 393 uses stock windsor rods and 302 pistons... he'll already have the rods!
I was under the impression he was asking if there was a simple bolt-together stroker using factory parts... and the answer is NO!
If you go to ebay you will find guys selling Scat cranks for about 350+shipping. Scat crank shafts are very good and durable. You can purchase these cranks in one piece or two piece rear seals and you have the option of Ford rod mains or Chevy rod mains. If you stick with the ford rod mains then you can use 302 pistons and stock 351W length rods and you have 393cid. If you are going to stick with stock rods I would put ARP wave lock rod bolts, they have very high strength (200,000psi tensile streangth). Also you have to check rod to cam clearance due to the longer stroke, you can have the rods clearanced by the machine shop before you balance the rotating assembly. Also you will have to grind material away from the block so that the crank counter weights and rods don't hit near the oil pan rail.

if you are really serious about doing a stroker, 347 396 or whater ford stroker you want to do, give Phil a call at flatlander. he wont bs you into buying stuff you dont need. ive put together two strokers from kits i bought from him and have had fantastic service from both.
