Cold advance stuck??????
Ok so I have some fun sounds that have started and I've tried everything and find the exact spot it's coming from. It's not a rod it's not an injector and the only thing I can think of is the cold adzance is stuck. Last fall I advance my pump timing about 9 degrees and I guess I started to notice the strange sound sometime later. So could the cold advance stick and cause the noise? How do I tell if its stock or working properly? Thanks

Applying +12v to the cold advance spade connector while the engine is running should produce a change in engine sound (more rattly sounding -- I really like the way it sounds when the cold advance is on).
If it doesn't produce a change in sound, then your cold advance isn't working properly.
I haven't heard of it getting stuck, but anything's possible.

i did have the temp sensor that controls my cold advance, get stuck on. try unplugging the wire to the cold advance solenoid (top rear of IP). trying this when the engine is cold (below 120) should cause the engine to drop its clatter sound and idle more like it does when hot. doing the same thing when hot should make no difference, as it should be turned off anyway
