Time passes so quickly. Just doesn't like she could be 70. The local drive-in (do they even have those anymore?) should have an Annette Funicello tribute night and show a few of those old beach movies. A great excuse to get out the old truck for the evening.
The thing that matters here is not how old those memories might make us seem to feel -
Consider what the kids today have and what they see...
I mean, I remember my brother begging, borrowing, and stealing every "SUPER BALL" he could find, just to see who could BAT one the farthest...
You know
I'll agree she was indeed very classy, came along at a time when "celebrity/actress" didn't mean someone the likes of Lindsay Lohan and her lot of similar bimbo's, ne'er do well's and rehab escapees. Of course she probably had people looking out for her better interests, not living of her income.
I remember first seeing Annette on MMC, had quite the crush on her too---she was but 10 years older---seemed like quite the mature woman to me way back then. Despite the silly but fun movies and other entertaining she did it was always with a sense of humor, not pushing any boundaries or buttons just to gain attention. Didn't need to be controversial, outrageous or outlandish in order to be noticed. I guess she was just an average person even though she seemed to live a glamorous life.
I can only hope I'll be so well remembered...........!
I do recall her from 1958 onward. Had a fascination with her along with Natalie Wood in the 60's. Those two affected me so much that I could never bring myself to date a blond in sunny San Diego. To this day still have a thing for dark hair and dark eyes which, fortunately, describes my wife to a tee. She just adds almond shape eyes and darker skin to round things out.

Oh, Brother you're talking my language now! Nothing finer than a brunette where ever they're found! Along with Ms Funicello a struggling singer/actress was Donna Loren, she of the Dr Pepper print ads, was also an early crush. It didn't hurt that my first real girlfriend was quite similar in build to both Donna and Annette either.
Those first crushes never leave our memories and it seems more than a few had that for Annette.
