I'm planning to get my father and I's 1997 F250 aligned. I looked over all the bushings on the ttb and they were dried out and cracked but all the bolts seemed centered. The steering wheel isn't centered and the wheels are toed out about a quarter of an inch causing the inside of the tires to wear. We don't want to drop a lot of money into this truck since it's not daily driven. Should we just forget about replacing the bushings or just get it aligned? We have a local shop that aligns big rigs and large trucks so I got that covered.
Here's a pic of the truck if you want to check it out. It's in amazing shape for being a NE Indiana truck.
As far as I know, the bushings are really cheap. Tie rods and ball joints are where it can get expensive. Jack up the front end and move the wheels in every direction you can think of, including prying up and down with a bar underneath the wheel. If every joint is tight, get the alignment. If it's not tight, you'd be wasting your money with the alignment.
I jacked up the front when we got it and the tie rod ends are all good. I took a crowbar and tried to see if there was any movement in the ball joints and they are solid.
i would replace the bushings before doing an alignment. and don't forget the front shackle bushings in the frame. it will only cost you around $100, and you will not have to worry about the alignment after that for a long time.
