Rag Joint Replacement?

Anyone have experience replacing this? Difficult?

My steering is L O O S E and I noticed that the fibrous part of the rag joint is eaten up pretty bad.

Its easy, 2 bolts. They sell a generic rubber disc for Fords in the Help section of the auto parts chainstores, I got one for like $7

But once I unbolt this thing, how do I get the shaft out of the way to put the new rubber disk on?

The rubber disc should just slip between the two flanges of the coupling once the bolts are out. there is a pinch bolt that holds the flange connected to the ps box splined shaft that might have to be loosened to give you some wiggle room but I dont think it should be necessary.

2wd is a bit different than a 4wd I see, its been quite awhile since I looked under the hood of a 2wd dent.

You were right on target Bama. Thanks so much! Only took me about an hour and a half (good for me - I am a pretty clumsy mechanic).

The disk just slid out, did not have to touch the pinch bolt.

And steering is MUCH improved. Good investment of $10.
