A/c ??

i had to put a used engine in my 2000 4.0 ranger this winter because of probable head crack. Now it seems to be running fine. However, now that it is warm out, i tried to turn the a/c on. No cold air. It worked with no problems last fall. I called the guy that put it in, and he said it must have had a leak at a fitting or something. My question is do you have to 'break' the a/c system when chaging engines? He said not always depends on the direction of the hoses off the compressor. I am suspect that when the change occured, perhaps the tech recovered the freon, but did not regenerate it after install....any thoughts on this would be appreciated....

OK, well, run to the auto parts store and pick up some R134 gages... These are indespensible and can save you big $$ on taking it to a shop... Those will tell you if there's a block/restriction in the system, or if there's even a charge at all. A couple other things to check that are cheap to fix are the compressor underpressure switch and the A/C system relay. These new R-134 systems are a snap to work on, as long as you take a little time to learn 'em... BTW, a Hayes A/C manual wouldn't help either... It lists correct A/C high/low ssystem pressures for different ambient temperatures and all sorts of goodies. Good luck!!!

You usually find a lot of dirt around a leaky connection because of the oil that leaks out.

system has been recharged. Shop had a guy replace engine. He recovered freon prior to engine swap. He neglected to recharge the system after. Shop did it for NC. Good deal...
