Question Solenoid wiring

I have a '95 REVCON TrailBlazer (Ford F-350 4x4). The original (starter?) solenoid had been replaced by a NAPA Echlin ST404 which worked for a day but now to start the truck I have to hold a screwdriver to the two posts while someone turns the key... I am going to replace the solenoid and was wondering if I was supposed to use the fourth post. The previous solenoid was attached without using the fourth post, and I also wonder if that could be part of the problem. Does anyone know the correct way to hook up this solenoid?

welcome to FTE. the 4th terminal is for older cars with points that required direct 12 volts from the solenoid while starting. that is not used on electronic ignition vehicles. get another solenoid.
the last time i had to replace one it took me 4 tries to get one that worked.

Hey thanks I'll try that. I'm not much into the electronic parts of mechanics
