alternator/bracket help
It's been awhile since my last post but I am on here almost daily reading posts. I am starting my next project which is the replacement of the stock alternator and also the bracket with an aftermarket setup. I have searched this site for someone who has done this project and read all ten pages of results to no avail. One member wanted to do this same thing but got no response as did others. I have removed the smog pump, put on a shorter belt, rerouted belt bypassing upper idler pulley and only have alternator and tensioner on bracket. I want to remove large factory bracket and replace with an alternator only bracket to clean up engine appearance. I have spent hours looking at brackets online and found several (march, spectre) that say they will fit. I would rather not spend a lot of money to put a nice polished billet bracket on an engine with 212,000 miles on it along with the dirt and grease that goes with it. The spectre bracket (#4723) looks like what I want and the price is around $20, but it comes with no hardware (bolts, nuts, spacers etc.) which would leave me to try and figure out bolt lengths and thread size and spacer lengths and where to even find spacer material, have never seen it in any stores. Anyone ever done this and what bracket/alternator combo did you use that worked with no problems? I have a 95 f150 xlt 4x4 w/351w, serpentine belt. I would think this would be a fairly easy job but I am getting a headache thinking of all the what if's. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your quick reply. I got on RJM'S website and checked everything out and will definately be getting the needed parts from them.
I assume that to do this you need the following parts: alternator (duh) ,charge cable kit,and the alternator harness. Did you use the old pulley or do you need get that also? Anything else needed to do a professional install? Again thanks for your reply and info.

Thanks for your reply and the link you provided, very informative. After reading all posts and links I learned a few things about alternators, like apparently the factory one on my 95 is already a 3g but a 95 amp one, that if this is so that I don't need to do any wiring or buy a 3g harness to upgrade the alternator (plug and play?). Is this correct? Apparently all I will need to do is do the charging cable and fuse upgrade. If this is correct all I need now is to get the pivot mount 160 amp 3g alternator from RJM (no 130 amps) and the charge cable kit. The reason I want the pivot mount is so that I can remove the large factory mount (no smog pump, idler pulley bypassed) and get an alternator only mount to tidy up engine appearance and make access to things easier. I am trying to find a bracket that will mount alternator in stock location and align serpentine belt correctly, there has to be one somewhere. I have looked at MARCH (30055) and SPECTRE (4723) but their details are kind of lacking and SPECTRE doesn't come with hardware, will need to call I guess. Again thanks for the info and link. Any further ideas appreciated.
