02 Grand Prix driveability issues
Took it out for a test drive. Steering wheel was shaking like an earthquake. The steering wheel would only shake at highway speed (anything over 55mph) The faster you went, the worse it got. Shake was most prominent when driving straight. Going into a turn smoothed it out only somewhat.
Took it down to the local tire & alignment center. Got it up in the air, the inner sidewall closest to the brakes were shot, several indentations on the 2 front tires. The outer sidewall and center of the tread in the tires looked fine, pressure was spot on. Had them balance and rotate the tires. Knowing this was only bandaiding the problem, only preventing further damage until the car goes into the shop tommorow. After all that, the steering wheel has a lumpy feel too it at slow speeds, you can really feel the indentations in the tires when steering left to right, shaking is still there somewhat improved.
Tires are basically junk at this point despite still having alot of tread life on them. There a year old with 22K miles on them and have been looked after since new.
That said, the car also recently developed a loud and embarrassing squeak coming from the front passenger suspension. Don't know if this is related to the tire wear or not, will find out tommorow. Anyone know what might be going on here? I also posted this on the ETCG forums.
