I also had similar VIN Questions. I am also new to this forum. I am the 2nd owner of a 1980 F 150 Supercab 4X4. I purchased it from the original owner back in 1988 or 89. I served me an my family well for many years but as time went on and my family grew I had to park it in favor of more reliable, family friendly, and economical vehicles. I didn't have the money or the time to keep it running so it has been parked for about the last 8 or 9 years. I recently retired to now I have the time and I would like to start rebuilding it. The LMC catalog's VIN guide does not have the same characters as my VIN. Another online VIN decoder says my truck should have a 302. The engine label on the truck says it is a 351M . The VIN is X14GKJJ1221. I would like to definitively identify the motor before I start buying parts for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any other source for parts would be helpful.
Fordzilla is right. You and I have almost the exact same pickup and mine is a 198 0 Ford Ranger F150 XLT Supercab long box. From the factory it had a 351M but its been swapped for a 351C. Mine was also made in the same plant in January 1980. Pretty close to my birthday.
Thanks for all the replies. You guys have been very helpful. The truck has never been modified so the axles, motor, etc are all still original. The sticker shows the following:
Ext Color 1P 1G (I did repaint the truck a few years ago)
WB 155
Type-GVW X140
Body DDM
Trans: K
Axle: H2
DSO F0035T057957
Anything you guys call tell me about my truck would be greatly appreciated.
Ext Color 1P - Medium Gray Metallic
1G - Silver Metallic
WB 155 -Supercab 8' Bed
Type-GVW X140 - 6400 GVWR
Body DDM:
D - Knit And Vinyl Seat D - Red M - Styleside Pickup
Trans: K - C6 Automatic
Axle: H2 - Ford 9" 3.50 ratio w/Limited Slip
Your DSO code should only be two digits. If the 57 at the end of the set of digits you typed were separate from the other two lines, that would mean your truck was ordered in Houston, Texas.

I have the complete set of 1980 Ford Light Truck Shop Manuals. The Body, Chassis, and Electrical manual has step by step instructions on how to decode the vin and Certification Decals, as well as what each code means.
Keep an eye on Ebay for a set, I bought mine for $25. I think you can get them on CD as well, but I'm still old-fashioned.
