When I bought this vehicle I had a different engine put in - smoking blue for several minutes until warm, low contribution on #7 cylinder.
A used 1997 engine was installed, I was told, and it seems to run well - took it down south with the family and our RV trailer last summer. It's taken some maintenance - just replaced a fuel pump and in the middle of a water pump replacement.
I have doubts about the engine date. The replacement engine didn't come with any data or history with it. Sometimes I wonder what it really is...
Here are some pics - the driver's door seems to indicate a mfr date of 10/96. A picture of the HPOP reservoir seems to suggest '95. Is there any better way to find the true engine mfr date?

Didn't figure you took a tag on the motor.
Silly things like placement of the Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor on the HPOP will tell you if its a 94-95 or if its a 96-97.
Other things for your vehicle will tell you 94-95 vs 96-97 such as brass topped radiator with a radiator cap, or a newer dagas bottle setup that they have in the 96-97's.
According to the HPOP that motor was made November 9th 1995. Since September was the "year" change over it would be factory installed in a "1996" model vehicle.
In the end it all irrelevant every PSD from 94.5-97 is the same just a couple minor changes to some very minor parts.
