So I've started monitoring my FICM voltage with my edge evolution. This morning it was about 25 deg. I clicked the key forward and noticed 48 volts. When cranking it maintained 47.5-48 volts. It started normal, not hard or rough. The voltage then steadily dropped to 35 volts. After a 10 min warm up it was at 41-42 volts. As soon as I started driving it went up to 47 to 49 and stayed that way the entire trip to work. I'm pretty sure the FICM is going south but is this an odd issue to have the voltage at 48 with KOEO? I've had no hard starts either when cold.
Ok ok new it was on the outs. I checked out the website last night. I thought the FICM would show less than recommended with KOEO. Wasn't sure if I was something strange or not

Shure sometimes it will Probably more noticable for those that have the Buzz FlaSH Maybe
But the true Test is when it has a Load so Running
You Must test the Batterys and Alternator
You could have a Battery with only 1 BAD CELL and NOT Know it. Iv been down this road and I couldnt beleive how much Smoother it ran with 2 Good Batterys
As Far as Alternator if you have an OEM one it Struggles at best to keep up Only to Fall Short
I dont know if an OEM alternator can fulley charge the Batterys and Meet Demand
SO start saving Pennys to invest into a High Output alternator your Electronics will Last alot longer for SHURE
ive already been though a couple sets of batts and a few alts. When it rains it certainly pours. Plus both me and the wife are going to be getting furloughed. Thanks congress!
Jd hate u r having problems... But a question. I just bought a 06 with 84k miles, and I purchased a edge evo also. 1st my fcim does the exact same thing so I'm thinking its programmed to read low till upto temp like a safety feature. 2nd I see u have a egr delete, and I was wondering if you have any problems with the cel? Thanks and best of luck!

I feel for you JD F250 but don't blame congress, blame Obama. He wanted the sequester and he got it. He wanted to continue to spend, spend, spend and finally someone said no. Off my soapbox now.

Theres No saftey Feature for the FICM like that
The Bottom Line is the Injectors Need 48 volts to turn ON/Off
when they dont have 48volts there being Damaged it will burn the Coils up in Time
Injector run around $3000.00-3500.00 to have someone change them
Yeah the FICM is a funny thing. I was expecting hard starts or something but it runs and starts fine. It's still junk though. I haven't had any issues with a cel. I do have two codes from the egr delete. I an on rehooking up my egr valve because I like the vane sweep. But no cel.
Don't worry. I fully blame the man in charge. We could talk about this all day. Lol. And I would do so with my 1911 firmly planted on my right hip! Yea my wife and I both are in the military. We're full time with the wi air national guard. We're looking at a 20% pay cut. We've spent more time in Iraq than those jokers have spent stuffing their fat faces. Those guys have done nothing for their country other than make it harder for the red blooded blue collar men and women that live in this great nation to live. when you take away funding from the institutions that make this country function, you have no place being in charge. i understand i may need to make a sacrifice so others can have it better. and thats what makes me better than them. how many times do u think they ever helped some old lady change a tire, or given a homeless person a buck or fed a man a sandwich that was hungry? they are all worthless. this is not their country. this is our country. and ill be damned if someone that has never EARNED a paycheck tells me how to live. And that's my nice way of putting it. Rant complete.
So I was just reading this thread about the FICM and I was wondering, on my 04 F250 for the last couple of weeks I have notice white smoke every so other comming of of the tailpipe. I could give it a little gas and it seems like it goes away for a while but comes back again. I did the FICM repair where you take it apart and reflow the solder in a few places and for two days no problems. But today I saw a little smoke, I saw where the FICM needs 48v for the injectors to work properly. Can I check this with the truck running? I did check it with ther truck off after the repair and there was 45v with the truck off.
The write up in the tech folder will walk you through it step by step. You need to check it KOEO, cranking and running. You'll need a friend. Or two friends, it makes it more fun.
Without a doubt the most effective/easiest way to check the FICM voltage is with a gauge setup that reads live data like scan gauge II or one of the smartphone apps like dashboss for IOS or torque for android, anyone that owns a 6.0L diesel should have a gauge setup so they can identify problems before they leave you sitting on the side of the road and the cost of the gauges will be more than offset with the first repair you are able to do yourself.
Well ordered a atlas 40 ficm from Ed today. Mine stays around mid 30s cold and once eot breaks 180 it stays 45-48v. Seems like its designed that way. Truck cranks great hot or cold, but I did have a p6011 code other day. So I bit bullet and ordered it!
