Need advice

Hello everyone. I am looking to get an F150 4x4 with the 4.9L straight six engine for my son. He is only 13 and I am hoping to have a father/son fix-it-up project together over the next couple years. I've always been a Diesel guy so I am looking for some advice on what to look for on these as I search for one. I want to get a 92-96 model.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Why a 4.9? You know he's gonna want a V8 once he gets to be old enough to drive.

Meh, it's a good choice, way more reliable and easy to work on than the V8s. About the engine itself, there is nothing to look, other than the obvious: leaks, oil in the coolant, noises, cyl. compression. Just take a good look at all the wiring, test the sensors if possible (EFI engines only), and have a test drive to see how the trans. is doing these days.
