don't know quite where to post this... maybe we need a tools/equipment forum
On another board a question was asked about building a engine test stand to break in a new engine... not much offered there and theres a little on the internet... I got to thinking I might want to do the same thing...
Anyone got any plans or drawings for such an animal ???
You found the right place. Some generic questions like this even thought they are not a "tip" generate responses that are good tips. Sometimes questions (if they are generic) can also jog our memories and we remember that way we figured out to do something. When we post our responses it adds to the "database" of information that we can all search for here.
What type of engine test stand are you talking about? Just one to run an engine, apply a load, or with a dyno?
ok... not to be a dummy, but I did as told and went to the search option... used "engine test stand" with the quotes and searched all forums...
I got 435 hits... with titles from "article request".. to "I've had a bad day " ???? what gives ??? am I doing something really wrong... I've had the same problems with the search before ... help a dummy ???
I tried again and got some hits that make sense... couple of nice sites with stands but no plans ":-( guess I'll have to design my own... this should generate an article don't you think ??
I'll tell you what, I've tried the search engine on this forum MANY times, and never came up with a darn thing, even when told there was a thread on the subject. I used every conceivable keyword and logic combination to no avail.
I will never look again. I think it is best if whoever responded to that elusive thread with the best answer should re-post that answer again. I have reposted my answers on the same subject many times before, and I don't mind a bit. I have been through the search thing enough to never wish it on anyone.
I hope that somehow improvements might be made! I tried a search for you just now on the engine stand subject, and I even got one of my own threads on a radiator question!!! Not even remotely similar in nature!

No sir, still waiting to hear something from Dennis or whomever can find it. I'm in no hurry tho... Are you in a rush to get the info? Or are you like me, and are just curious to see the contraption?

Its been my lucky week. Picked up two FE 427's from a town dump for free. They came out of a Chris Craft. Transmissions (marine) cooling stuff, exhaust manifolds, plus a lot of stuff is still attached. I was thinking about getting them running as is then move one to a truck.
I'm not in a hurry. Next couple of weeks I'll build a structure that'll hold a motor+transmisson+radiator. Don't think I'll go the truck front end route I read about else where. I found links on this site for pictures but the link dead ended.
Maybe I'll do a drawing before hand. I'll post it for critique if I do.
