I have an 02 f350 v10 it does not have the power it used to and it shifts late. When I let off the gas and push the pedal the rpms rev then a few seconds later will go back into gear and shifting into od is later. Fuel pressure is good at idle and under a load new maf new fuel filter new fuel injector pressure regulator new fuel pump and I just changed plugs with all new ignition coils. I was thinking vacuum leak but I did not find any. Only other thing I could think of is replacing fuel injectors. Any thoughts? Thanks
I was thinking that also but when I hauled my 30 foot gooseneck stock trailer loaded with calves I could not feel the trans slipping just the lack of power. To me it seems like a misfire issue. But I could just be in denial about the transmission.
It does not slam into gear it gradually goes back into gear smooth. Its when i am driving and i let off the accelerator the engine rpms increase, then when I reapply the gas pedal the rpms increase more then goes back into gear smoothly though. I just want to be certain before I do unnecessary work.
I think what you are seeing with the transmission is torque unlock when you are letting off the gas (normal), when you get back on the gas the converter is unlocked and remains that way for a few seconds and then locks back up again. Mine does the same thing and it seems to be more noticeable with age, I think the torque converter in getting weak on ours. Less power than before can be a lot of things, the one thing you haven't checked is the catalytic converter. Or it can just be that maybe the motor is getting a little wear on it, it's normal even with the V10. I know that ours isn't the same motor it was in September 00 when we bought it, if you don't pull it hard you may not notice it but if you do like we do it's noticeable.
Thank yall. Cant believe I never thought about the converter, thats better than the trans being shot. Guess I will just have to deal with it and pull as little as I can, ha ha, for a while until I can find the time to order a new torque converter and put it on.
If I was going to keep our truck I would go with a complete rebuild but we aren't so it someone else will have to worry about it . It just has to make the 820 mile trip home and it will be retired, I know that it will make it home and then some without any problems. I'm not complaining because it's been the best truck I have ever owned and I have had a few both pleasure and work trucks but I also work them hard so I know they will wear out, the trick is to know when it's time.
