I recently purchased a 1988 4x4 F250 auto with 140,000 miles on it. My plan is to pull a gooseneck trailer with race cars on it. I have not pulled the trailer yet, but what I am curious is, what should the RPM's be going around 60? I take the truck down the highway and it really sounds like it is rapping out. I have never owned a diesel before nor a heavier duty truck so I'm not sure what to expect. Any help would be appreciated!!
is there a tach? it doesnt sound like it but i thought i'd ask, also with the automatic you wont have to worry as it wont overrev unless there isnt another gear, which i guess there could not be another gear to shift into if you have 4.10s
It is the 4.10 as we just put a different rear end in the truck. There is a tach and it shows about 2200 going around 55. I didn't know if that was accurate or not as sometimes it seems that the tach is a little goofy. Thanks for the info as this is my first Ford and first diesel. Still figuring out all the stuff on it as I bought if from a farm guy for $400 and it was sitting for about a year.
