Well, i I have had this popping in the Front end for a while now.
I replaced everything except the leaf spring bushings almost two years ago,
So i thought this noise was from the bushings.
During the work on the front end, I had crawled under and re torqued the u bolts and even looked at the leafs while my girlfriend rocked the wheel.
nothing seen at that time. Well today it started raining and the noise became more noticeable. So i had my girlfriend rock the wheel again and this time i could see the front lower leaf of the driverside leaf rock back and forth with the rear of the spring not moving at all.
So i know now that the leaf is broke.
Im not going to just fix one so i will get a complete lift kit. I would only like to go 2" on the kit so it dose not affect towing the toy hauler.

I prefer OEM Ford springs over spring shop springs. Get a set of X codes from Ford and you will get about 2" that you are looking for. Get a new set of Ubolts from a spring shop. Ubolts should not be reused. If you get rear springs get the C code dually springs. The C code rears give you an inch+ in height and a better load rating without being too stiff. I have the C codes and I like them a lot.

When I wore out my front springs, I went with new springs from Ford. The Ford replacement springs weren't half as good as the original springs that came on my truck. I wish I had gone with the spring shop I talked to. I had to add a leveling kit to get the front of my truck back to within spec, not level, shortly after the new springs were installed. Mine were coil springs, so perhaps you'll have better luck with leafs.
when i snapped a front leaf at 175,000 miles, i went to the local spring shop all the ford dealers get their springs from. cheaper than buying the same springs from ford.
$375 installed, compaired to $321 each from ford and then having to put them in myself.
