I figured I'd start a thread so it comes up in google
I ordered a PMM long block last year, I called them every day, sometimes twice a day, to make sure there would be ford blue head gaskets, and arp's installed. I was assured over n over again that I was getting what I wanted. I went to the FedEx terminal, opened the crate, and saw a big victor reinz box on top. Black diamond head gaskets were installed, and the cheaper A1 studs installed (by cheaper, I mean NOT the H11's, but their equlivent to the arp's). The front cover was painted, inside the coolant pump, thermostat housing. The paint was peeling off also. If I would've installed it, there would still b paint chips in my coolant system. I called them at the FedEx terminal, before taking possession, telling them it's not what I ordered, they said it'd b $1100 to return it!!!!! Thanks to FTE, n our network here, it eventually got settled, but I lost about 3 weeks messing with it. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, but it's well documented in the "engine removal pics" thread.
If you want something done right,,, DO IT YOURSELF!!!! No one is gonna care about your engine as much as you do.
I know of a couple other members on here have stories also about their experiences with other big box "engine rebuilders". Post em up,,,
We do what the customer wants at my buddy Kenny's shop but we give them the pro's and con's of their decision. WE TELLTHE CUSTOMER THE RIGHT WAY IN ADVANCE! so there is no questions about it later on down the road and the work order is written everyday language so there are no questions about what was done .I've got the pleasure of doing my first PSD there but it's not by far my first diesel. This engine is being done better tban new, it's being done by me ,with quality being job #1. I will be posting pictures and explantion of why things are being done.
659028 right now,,, rebuild was at 582xxx.
The freeze plug issue,,, ended up being an oring.,.,.. Whew!!!! So I'm completely dry n clean. I'm getting happier n happier, the more time goes by. Ugg, said his shortblock from PMM is burning oil. I don't even check mine anymore. I check it by changing it. Lol. Really tho.
I put a Blackwater Engine long block in mine about 4k miles ago, it also has the VR BlackDiamond gaskets in it so far no problems with anything, no leaks, doesn't use any oil.

Wow,,, sure hope for the best then. Did you install it, or did you have someone else do it?
Let me rephrase my comment. It's loosing 1.5 qts a week. It's not leaking, the down pipe has no oil in it, and there is no visible smoke. Guess when she is rolling down the highway turning RPMs is when the lose is taking place. All the drivers report no smoke at idle or light driving.
