There's a guy locally selling a 460 fi with an e4od out of a 96 with only 84000 miles. One problem I can't figure out how to fix. That style e4od doesn't have a cable driven speedo so how would I go about a vehicle speed sensor input for the computer? I'm completely stumped.
The VSS is mounted on the rear diff. Make sure you get the entire harness related to trans and engine. ECM, fuse box, everything. The only way I can think of is if you get the rear end from the donor truck. I didnt find a VSS delete on google. Perhaps someone has some idea? Or you could just get the EFI engine and mate it up to a C6. The C6 is a more stout tranny
Woops, never mind the C6 idea.. you need a VSS for the ECM regardless
The c6 would work as you could use the Vss that the cable for the speedo comes out of off the tranny. I'm just really looking to use an automatic overdrive for what I'm doing.

If you're looking to use just the tranny, you could use a stand alone trans controller. TCI and several others make them. Most are in the $7-800 range for good ones.
Call me crazy but i think im on to something here. I just picked this up at the local yard today and im thinking since the '96 computer requires a pulse from the psom on 92-96 trucks I can graph this into my '78 and use the tone wheel from a 8.8 in my nine inch (Ive seen a couple threads about it) and just maybe have the pulse needed to run the '96 460 and e4od.
I wanted to run it by the truck community to see if anyone could find any errors in my thinking. Thanks
Yes. Just a matter of fitting in the frame rails of my truck. Could really go aftermarket as long as it was able to run high pressures. It's regulated to the fuel rail.
The point is this isn't some Star Trek movie where you can say "Make it so" What do you actual think the advantages are to an EFI 460 over a well tuned carbed motor ?
I'm all for fabrication. It kinda is like "make it so" because I didn't think it could be done but I'm gunna make it so lol. I just had a few quirks I was unsure of. Plus i like the fact of someone looking at it and saying oooo that's different.
seajr1978, you can make any Engine,Tranny configuration work in any vehicle with fabrication. I love the concept of discovery. I'm sure if you wanted a jet engine in that truck, with the right inginuitive mind, you could make it happen. I put a Dodge 318 and 727 tranny, into a 68 Chevy once. Also, I went to college to learn Auto mechanics, and my instructor, had done the same thing you are doing. But, in his case, he took a 350 engine and TH350 tranny from a 1994 Camaro, and put it into a 57' Chevy. Of course he had to use the computer, speed censors, and various other components that the computer needed to function,as well. So I do know that what you are doing can be done. If you have the intuition, and the funds, have at it, and have fun while your doing it.
^for sure man. Discovery is the part I like. So maybe somewhere down the road I can pitch in on someone's question. I like ohh why do it factor part....ummm why not? I do it for the same reason we drive old ford trucks in 2013 it's what we like.
