These moog ball joints do not have a removable rubber boot. I've tried pressing them from the end of the threads but it just keeps moving the stud and not pushing straight. I've tried pressing from on top of the rubber on the shoulder like you would press a normal ball joint in and it ruined the rubber boot (hopefully I can get some type of replacement). How in the heck are you supposed to press these things in without removable boots and without ruining the non removable boot?
I contacted the place i bought them from. I could only find a tech support phone number from moog so I'll call them tomorrow. I'll get a picture of them tomorrow.
Well I feel like a big dummy. After looking at them a little more you have to pop the boot off with a screwdriver (it has a metal ring built in to the rubber). You can't just pull them off with your hand like a lot of ball joints. I guess this design is to retain grease better. At first, I was prying on them with a screwdriver and was afraid I was going to break the rubber. Oh well, guess I'm ordering some replacement boots. Live and learn I suppose.
Well Moog wasn't very helpful to say the least. They basically said they won't sell me just the boots. Any idea on where I can get some boots and not have to buy the whole new ball joint?
They are a harder plasticy rubber (polyurethane) I honestly think they would crack especially over time. I work with the stuff all the time for motor mounts, sway bars, suspension bushings and all. It is very very common now days for bushing upgrades. However like I mentioned being thin and flexed allot on a ball or tie rod joint I would think it would crack.
