Hello Gentleman
I inadvertantly put a small dent in my cac (intercooler hose), I believe that is what it is called. It cracked and dented in, about the size ofa nickel. Can I patch it and run it to get the truck home? Marine tex or something?
I was doing the blue spring upgrade and dented it in on the bottom of the turn going up to the top of engine.
2005 F-350 superduty 6.0
also to replace it how does the bottom pull out? Do I have to turn it, do I have to remove the bottom holder for the air cleaner?
BTW it is the long hose on the drivers side. It goes from the driver side headlight area, under the air filter housing and up to the top of the engine.
Any insight?
For a temp fix you can use JB Weld just let it cure good before ya use it.
Iff all else fails I have used several wraps of ducktape just to get back. Be shure there is no oil residue on the surfaces.
I had to pull the battery, battery tray, and air filter to get both hands on the lower end of that cac tube in order to pull and twist and pull some more until finally it came out. Be careful i almost dropped the clamp into the intercooler openingcoonection when it separated and i was lifting it out.
Part stores sell a two part expoy in a syringe specifically for plastic repairs. it works pretty well for a few months then tends to start peeling around the edges. repair on the outside only as the pipe goes right into the engine. skuff the area up with some 80 grit and hit it with some brake cleaner to give it the best chance of sticking well. should last long enough to get a new one shipped.
To get it back together easier warm up the end of the tube with a heat gun or hair dryer.
3M sells a silicone marine sealer called 5200. That stuff is double tuff and doesn't come off. I'd give it a shot just make sure you clean off all the grease with alcohol first so it can get some bite into the plastic.
Thanks everyone. I was going to use Marine-tex, it is pretty tuff stuff. I used it on the intake manifold on my Marquis. They put a plastic intake manifold on that engine and it cracked. Held for two years.
