I have a 2004 ford 550 with a 6.0 diesel. It has a manual transmission and is 4x4. The speedo quit working and threw a code P0500 vss vault. I changed the sensor on the rear differential. The speedo still doesn't work. What should i check next? wiring to pcm? Any way to check if its the cluster? also i was told to check the abs module? looking for some insight here. Is there another sensor that would be on the t-case or manual transmission?
Your on the right path. trace the wring back to the PCM from the VSS.
The other sensors for the ABS are on the front wheels. There is not any
speed sensors on the trans/transfer case that I know of. The plug for the
VSS how did it look any corrosion? Also as you go up the harness check
each plug for any corrosion and clean it and apply dielectric grease to
all of the connections.
so i tested the wiring from the vss on rear differential and wires are good .4 ohm. checked vss wires from main harness to abs module and those are .4 ohm too. I swapped a instrument cluster from my 2004 6.0l and put it in a identical truck and the speedo started working.so now i know that my cluster is not the issue.Could it be a abs module issue? Any way to check the abs module to see if it's bad.
