ECO SHUTTER LEMON LIMP MODE !!!!!!
We picked it up September 22, 2011 local dealer. I have encountered two issues ( ie: jerking loudly into gear at low speeds & while cruising at about 70MPH on cruise control descending a hill pooped out of gear RPM's revved. My mistake I should have called the dealer at once ).
A few weeks ago, traveling with my 9 year old son, I floored pedal to enter a busy highway near our home. My truck at about 30MPH shook violently & lost power check engine light iluminated & stayed on for about two days. We made it to our destination after I stopped at traffic light & shifted into M mode. On the way back I again stomped on pedal same exact result. This was on a Sunday. Monday morning I called the service dept. I was informed I could not have it looked @ until Monday the following week.
I scheduled the appointment. My truck had several more episodes during the week where it experienced loss of power during under moderate to hard acceleration.
The following Monday I arrived at the service dept. My truck was " ready to go " after about 1.5 hr. I was told the misfiring was caused by a spark plug.
I was not convinced it was fixed after reading through numerous people writing in about the same exact problem.
Within two days after being at the dealer, my truck suffered another loss of power under medium acceleration.
I immediately called the service advisor at the dealer. He made another appointment for next Tuesday as of this writing is today.
I arrived there this morning, my truck was in for 3 hours.
I finally convinced the Service Manger to obtain a loaner. I was given an Explorer.
I was told I would hear back this afternoon. I didn't receive a call as of 4PM. I finally called the Service Manager.
He stated truck was " ready to go "
. This time the Service Mgr. advised me that they replaced the inter cooler. I contacted the care line & generated a Case number.
I am disturbed
that Ford nor the Dealer contacted me about this serious safety issue. Especially after reading this serious defect has been known since 2011 !Can anyone imagine stomping on the gas pedal to enter the Freeway during heavy traffic only to hopefully limp to the breakdown lane to avoid traffic oncoming @ 60MPH speeds ?
More to follow.
Sorry about your experience, but what you're describing is a very common problem with the Ecoboost engines. Mine did the same once or twice. The intercooler swap straightened it out quite nicely. Don't let a relatively simple fix ruin your experience with a great truck.
Sorry to hear about your intercooler issue and glad they finally fixed the issue that was causing the problem. It would also help you to put your foot in it every once in awhile to clear things out. Hopefully like others have experienced the intercooler change did help them, some said it did not help them.
Let us know how it works out for you.
