Recall Circus
Recall Circus
I called Jone's West Ford in Reno for an appointment to take care of my latest emissions recall.
The service dept. has an answering machine. I left my number, reason for the appointment request, etc.
Later, "john" called to ask me what the problem was. He's the service writer. I told him I wanted to take care of the recall. To my amazment, he tried to talk me out of getting it done. Maybe it was the not-so-good feedback he got last time I was there?
I told John...that my state required the recall for registration renewal and if I didn't get it done, I couldn't renew my plates and that's a big problem. I also mentioned that Lithia had already replaced one EDP sensor and EGR last summer.
Well that convinced "john" that I for sure....didn't need the recall done. Again...I explained that I needed the certificate and recall DONE for registration renewal AND my CEL was coming on as described in the recall letter.
John told me that the was schedualling appointments for THanksgiving!!! And the reason was that the EDP sensors were "hard to get". I AGAIN told John I needed the recall done so I could register my truck...and that the people in Nevada where he was, didn't have this problem with their DMV...so my situation was different.
John transferred me back to the answering machine.
I left a message. Then I called the parts dept. to see if this was B.S. or if they really had no EDP sensors. Guess what? They had them. AND..the parts guy was like...hmmm I don't know who your writer is...but you can get this done now...I can make this happen, no problem. hmmmm
In the mean time...I called Lithia Lincoln Mercury. The service "person", told me she had no idea what this recall was and had to go ask if she could make the appointment. She came back on the line and said it was a go...setting me up for Monday. I grabbed the appointment.
MONDAY:
I arrive at 8am...1 hour and 15 mins from my home at the dealer in south Reno. The service guy... (an idiot) who I have had prior experience with...says to me...can I help you?
Yea...I'm here for my 8 o'clock appt. for the recall. He says, "oh...we can't do that recall here. You have to take it to Jones West for that....we don't have those parts."
Uhh...you better check on that...I didn't just drive this far and get up this early and take the day off from work to hear that now. This idiot...insists that there is absolutely NO WAY they can do the recall. I told him I talked to a service writer and had her double check on whether it could be done. She put me on hold and checked...to make sure...then made the appt.
Moron says...well that lady is 80 years old...she doesn't know what she's doing. NOOOO I said...that lady I talked to was NOT 80 years old...she sounded middle aged and double checked it could be done!!
Welll......he says. I'll go ask my diesel mechanic. Good. I say. He comes back and says..."those idiots..." (who's the idiot?) Keys?
Changing the EdP sensor: 7 hours. Nothing like losing an entire day of work for this EDIT...huh?
Certificate for my DMV as specified in the recall letter from Ford:
"oh...we don't have that...here's your receipt."
I asked for the Service Manager. Response: "uh...we're kinda ...inbetween service managers right now".
Forget it.
Anyone want to buy a truck? The color is great...but you'll have to visit the dealer once a month for recall fixes...your check engine light will blink like a Christmas decoration...did I mention the terrible customer service, delays, wasted time, time off work, time without a truck while it's being fixed...lies and B.S. you'll have to put up with and expense?
Sorry...venting.

That is bad to here.
I would suggest ringing Fords Customer Relationship Centre about dealers like that, BUT there are far to many of them out there for Ford to remove thier license.
Service like that puts the blue oval flag they fly out the front to shame.

Damn, and I thought I had a bad dealer. I feel for you. You can find my experience down in the recall thread. I blame it on the independently owned dealer not Ford though. I'm just glad that for whatever reason, Ford's fixing the issues. Well that and I just like the truck. I can't see myself driving any other thing now.

Gah . . . .
That's why I was sooooooo nervous before bringing my truck in to have it's recalls done.
Fortunately this a farm town, huge Ford population and the diesel techs at this dealer know their stuff. It was gone for 8 hours and is back and running just fine, albeit louder.
Was still nervous . . . .
