Well, actually right now I am just an Engineer in Training, can't get my professional engineering license for 4 years. I hate to blow my own horn, but I am so happy to finally be done with school I just had to let it all out. I took the long route to get this degree. I started out majoring in Engineering right out of high school, drank and partied too much, ended up flunking out of engineering, switched majors and graduated with a soils degree, got a job and decided to go back to school to get that engineering degree that I couldn't get the first time. Well, after 3 years of working full-time and going to school, I am finally done (only 10 years after graduating HS). I got the results of my Fundamentals of Engineering exam back and I passed! So hopefully I will be getting a better paying job soon, and you know what that means --- a NEW FORD TRUCK!
wow! congratulations longneck. if i could do it over again i think i would go for engineering too. probably electrical or mechanical. guess it's not too late just no money. again, congrats
I know where you are coming from. I started U Maine with my baby brother after doing 5 years in the Army. He went to class and I went to the frats. He is an electrical engineer and I am back in the Army. I did Graduate from UTI with an Associates in Auto/ Diesel Tecnology thirteen years later and missed being an ASE master tech by one question on the auto tranny test. I guess being a sergeant in the Army is a pretty respectable job.
Just to vent: While eating breakfast this morning with my soldiers the platoon sergeant called me to tell me I was involentarily extended in Korea for three more months. That SUCKS!
Thanks guys,
I am starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn't have told my wife I graduated, you should see the list of "honey-dos" she has for me! Oh well, atleast I have time to work on them now. It is a little strange at night not having to do homework until it is time to go to bed?!? I guess now I have time to read those Chilton and Haynes books I have laying around and start tinkering again.
I didn't think that Korea was so bad. I spent 5 years over there all together. I did miss my truck while i was over there. Of course I had a Army Jeep and a 5 Ton to help me pass the time.
Way to go Longneck!
You didn't mention what your discipline was but I'm guessing it's civil engineering (comment about soils).
I graduated U of Houston in '77 with a BSMechE and love the profession. Got to play around with all sorts of neat stuff, mainly industrial and aero-derivative gas turbine engines...up to 200,000 HP. Built power plants, generator sets, compressor stations. Traveled all over the world (usually the nice parts..some not so nice...Thank God for the USA). Worked on off-shore oil and gas production platforms. It's been great.
You have all of this to look forward to. The effort you've put out will pay off.
Oh, one more thing. Please prep and take the principles and practice exam as soon as you can. You'll be surprised at how much you can forget in a short amount of time after college.
And good luck on that Honey-Do list. I hope you're better at that than I am.
Congrat's on graduating! It is surprising how a taste of the "real world" makes you appreciate that college degree when you finally get it. Congrat's, again!
