I have been a proud owner of my 2012 F250 which I ordered Oct 2011 and took delvivery Jan 3rd 2012, for just under 15 months. I really liked this truck - the looks, the power, teh capability. Yesterday, I decided to trade my 250 Lariat in on a F150 Platinum. I had traded in an F150 on the 250 and made a good deal in the process. But after 15 months, and after adding airbags, real Rancho Shocks and dealing with the limited range due to the 25 gallon tank, and arranging to have a Titan 50 Gallon tank installed - as well as being frustrated with and wanting to figure a way to fix the anemic headlights, I decided it was time to move on. So I traded the F250 in on a F150 CrewCab Ruby Red Platinum short bed, which by the way came with a 36 gallon tank, bi-directional remote, Ford Tonneau cover (identical to and made by Bakflip).
I didn't really have a good reason for making the switch - I just wanted something new and different. In the past 15 months, I put 34,500 wonderful miles on the 250, many of them pulling one of two snowmobile trailers - and all I can say is that this truck was/is unmatched in power. But frankly it was lacking a bit in other areas that it turns out are important to me.
I expect that at some point I may come to regret this decision - heck I think I am already having buyers remorse - but will defnitely have regrets whenever I go to pull our 6500 lb sled trailer up a long hill, and wanting to pass a slower vehicle - which barely caused the F250 to breathe hard.
Anyway, I learned a lot from you guys -before ordering my F250, then later on purchasing wireless airbags, wireless Rancho Shocks, Tonneau cover, Extended range bi-directional remot, etc. So my thanks to you for the help.
Wow! Good luck.I guess you are right when you say you didnt have a real good reason to get rid of it.You had the 50 gal titan tank so thats not a reason. All the others you listed arent real issues.Really you just wanted another new truck and thats fine.Personally could never part with all the power this truck has towing my camper. You tow as well so that surprises me you would trade to an f150. No matter how good a "deal" you got you still lost a bundle. But you said it ,you wanted something new and different so you got it.Im sure you will be back........

Mike
Congrats on the new truck!
Love to see some photos, but you already knew that.
I test drove a black platinum this weekend while we were dealing on the wife's new Explorer sport.....
those platinums are STUNNING trucks !
and as little as the op said he towed, the 6.7 was overkill...
if he's getting the v6 ecoboost in the f150 - it's got more power than the wife's explorer sport and her's has 365hp and 350 lbft !!!! on regular gas !!!
I did get the ecoboost engine. The Platinum is an amazingly beautiful and rich feeling truck -and so quiet. The F250 was a lot quiter than the '03 F150 SCrew I traded in, but this thing is at a whole different level. As for the Platinum, I already see that I will add a 2" front leveling kit.
By the way, I had not yet installed the Titan tank, but made the mistake of test driving a Platinum while at the dealer arranging for them to install the Titan. Also, if nything maybe I will ht the lotto and buy a diesel F250 to supplement the F150!
....but will defnitely have regrets whenever I go to pull our 6500 lb sled trailer up a long hill, and wanting to pass a slower vehicle - which barely caused the F250 to breathe hard.
Congrats on the new truck Mike!
As for the above quote, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about judging by what I read on the EcoBoost Forum and the 2009+ F-150 Forum. Sounds like those guys don't have any complaints at all and a lot of them are towing heavy compared to what we would have towed with 1/2 ton trucks many years ago.
You'll be fine. Talked the mother in law into her first Ford last year, truck like yours but FX4. Pulls brother in laws 6000 lbs boat just fine. But you won't get the mpgs towing that your 6.7 got.
