I been driving my brothers Ranger for a couple weeks now and it definitly has some issues. Im used to my F150/manual trans so hopefully Y'all can point me in the right direction! Theres an obvious problem with the shifter. 1) The shift indicator in the dash is stuck on 1(low gear) and doesnt move from there. 2) The shifter has some play in it goin into park and pressing the overdrive button does not seem to actually put the trans into overdrive (no dash light). 3) The truck can physically only be shifted into reverse, neutral and drive, but not into the manual 2 or 1 gears.
Im guessing any of these problems may be a cause of some of the driveability issues, but there could likely be problems with the tranny itself.
1) Once you find drive the tranny seems to slip slightly and shifts hard when accelerating on regular basis regardless of hot/cold. 2) The tranny has slipped completely at a traffic light, until the RPMs were brought to 2,500ish, then shifted hard and took off. 3) Sitting at a signal and coasting at slow speed causes a heavy vibration throughout the truck until you start moving again.
Any input would be great, but I have a feeling I'll be droppin a transmission in the near future.
