do you guys have a link to a maintenance, modification and add ons section tried to search it but doesnt show too much. i just bought first diesel 01 7.3L and looking for a list of things to do to maintain the truck and performance stuff i found hutch/ harpoon mod , coolant filter , 2nd oil filter set up by scrolling thru the 7.3 threads . but im looking for a tread that has them all and links to find parts to get the job done
thanks for the info i saved all links in about 2 weeks ill start from front of truck and move back . just got new tires and rims today now its alot quieter but now i hear r/f hub starting to growl go figure i just replaced the vacume hoses to the front hub housing old stuff i pulled off had a bunch of crap fell out of it so either way i guess im pulling hubs to atleast clean out 1 and replace the other well here goes nothing lol hopefully this dont turn into a endless money pit . after hubs ill be moving to all filters and fluids then move on to extra oil filter mod coolant mod then fuel mod with extra filter all depends on costs money is a little tight since i had to buy tires and rims for this beast so i may hit up cheap/free mods inbetween theses. anyone have any of those abs sensor plugs to back grease the hubs? if so how much to get a set of them i really dont want to replace these hubs again i just looked them up and they are like 350$ each on rock auto but ill be shopping around to see if i can find cheaper
Clay at Riffraff shows the block off plate as out of stock, but keep an eye open, otherwise you can use a large needle greaser to get grease in there as well.
You might be surprised about the hubs, my local Autozone(although I dislike them) had the Timken unit bearings when I needed them last time, for around $150. Rock auto should be close to that as well. I looked them up up and they show $192 got a range from $95-$270.
Look at Timken SP580205 for fine thread and 515020 for coarse.
Sounds good I had my brother look them up on way home all that showed up on rock auto was motor craft but I'll check amazon as well never thought of them for parts thnx
Front to back is methodical, but there are true weaknesses (if you can call it that after all these miles and years) in the truck that are giving many people fits right now.
Hutch mod (with harpoon mod while you're in there) These trucks have a flaw in the fuel delivery that confounds longevity... and it mixes air with your fuel (injectors hate air). The link to the Hutch mod is in my signature, and the fuel line part of the mod is as important as the rest of the mod. The quick-disconnect seals are where the air originates. The other undesirable symptom if you don't do this? You can run out of fuel with plenty in the tank... the foot sometimes falls off.
Service the slide pins on your brake calipers. They stick and will cause premature break wear, pulling to one side, diminished MPG, loss of free time (to fix), and wallet drainage.
50-cent mod. The Under Valve Cover Harness connector is growing weak from years and heat cycles. Failing to address it cost one member a $400 Injector Driver Module recently, and another member's valve cover gasket (and vacation) this winter. I hate the mod myself - I just replaced the harnesses under the VCs because Stinky will use those for a very long time.
