Plastic grill insert removal
Good morning. I have a 2000 expedition eddie bauer. The black plastic grill has really faded and looks ugly. If I had the money I'd replace it but I don't so I figured i could paint it. I would like to take it out to do this. Can anyone tell me how to get that thing out? Do I have to take the whole front off? hoping not. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Take off the radiator cover piece, the corner lights, the headlight assembly. You'll find the grill surround retaining screws now exposed to remove. There's also a couple of tabs on the bottom to depress, pull the grill surround straight out front. The grill insert is secured with tabs to the grill surround piece. In all honesty if you're just painting the stock piece, you'll be just as well off by leaving it in place and taping off everything you don't want painted (blue painter's tape - Home Depot...) and just spraying it with Rustoleum Plastic flat black or whatever color you want it. I would use black, since it won't hurt what's behind the grill to be black anyway. You can also use Rustoleum black to spray any bare spots on the frame. You can find a good selection of Rustoleum spray paints at your local Home Cheapo.
