im proud to say i own an explorer. my new 1994 explorer 4dr 4wd auto. its white with red interior 98,000 miles. the a/c needs recharging and the autolock hubs dont work so any info on those would be wonderful. i used to own a 1987 F-250 6.9 idi. this vehicle is wonderful. i have axle code D4 what does tha mean?
Can you tell if the A/C was ever converter over to R-134a or if it still has the R-12 (Freon) fittings? If it hasn't been converted yet, you'll want to at least plan for that expense. Well, even if it has been converted, it may not have been done correctly. Unless you know the history of the system, you may want to budget for a complete conversion anyway.
I seem to recall some discussion awhile back regarding common issues with the early auto-locking hubs in the Explorer. You might try searching the forum for details on that system and issues. I think there is a pretty common conversion to converter to manual locking hubs if you're interested in that.
