Okay I have a knock that has just started. It only knocks at idle and deceleration. If I am on the throttle or bringing it up on the converter, no knock sounds great. I was under the truck today and noticed the starter would move a little. Tried to tighten but it was already tight. then noticed that if I pushed on the starter it would move the housing it is bolted to. Upon further inspection. I looks like ther is a crack in the housing. not the tranny housing or the engine block this looks like a aluminum spacer about an inch thick.that goes all the way around kinda like an adapter. any ideas? has anyone had a problem like this?
Stop running the engine before you destroy your flexplate...
If the starter adapter spacer is cracked you probably have a preload condition...
There was a tsb/recall about it.
I have started to pull the transmission to look at the flex plate. The starter was not in a bind. so I am thinking that it is a cracked flex plate. I have the tranny back far enough to see the bolts but need about 5 more inches to be able to get the bolts off.. I will keep posting when I find something out.
Took off the adapter and looked and could ot find a crack.. It appears that it was just flexing and dirt. lol I am just glad it was just the flex plate.. it is back up and running and all is will..
