keyless start

I have a 1990 f150 xlt lariat and i pu tin a momentary switch for my starter due to the mechanism inside the steering column going bad. I would like to use a basic on/ off switch to power the vehicle. I dont know what the amps are and what color wire/wires i use to do this. I do know howi to wwire it. Ri@ght now im turning the key to on and push start and go.

I bet your actuator broke. It's about a $10-15 part, and it's not too difficult to replace. Remove the shrouds on the steering column, take out the ignition switch, tilt the wheel down and then there might be a couple pins you have to remove. It's been about 12 years since I had to do it. I drove a week with the shrouds off and using a screwdriver to poke the actuator on top of the column (the actual momentary switch is center top, about an inch or two behind where the top of the column goes under the dash) with the ignition switch on to start the truck--also a '90 F150 XLT Lariat.

I have a push start now and i would like to have a secondary on/off switch to use for power instead of using the key tumbler

That will just make it easier for some nut to "borrow" it...

Just fix it, its cheaper, easier, and will not cause your insurance to drop you if it gets "borrowed"...

There is nothing wrong with wanting a racecar starting setup if you live in a redneck town and never lock your cars or houses.
But what about your steering lock. Are you gonna just leave the key in ignition. Because if not... You'll be using the key every time anyway to unlock that.

You'll need a switch with a few terminals on it. Probably need a relay to handle all the current from the two 10ga wires under there that control everything, and then there must be 6-8 other wires to deal with.
The key is nice to have so that you're not energizing the whole truck ignition and pump, when all you want is the radio.

Keep the key, fix it, or continue to use it as is. There is no reason to hack the wiring in your truck.
