I have replaced the starter and solenoid,it will not turnover when I put the key in the ignition and turn it to the start position.I can start it when i bridge the solenoid with a screw driver and have the key in the on position. Any ideas?
thanks jeff
It could either be the neutral start switch(clutch pedal switch on a manual tranny) or the linkage in the steering column it broken.
The linkage in the streering column has been the fix several times on here. The actual electrical ignition switch is mounted on top of the column under the dash. The key switch where you put the key in is just mechanical. Hooking these two together is a a rack and pinion gear and some linkage hooked to a rod that runs down the column to the ignition switch. If this gets broken, it will move the rod enough to run, but not enough to push the switch to the start position.
Thanks,I'm going to replace the neutral safety switch and then if that does not work,I will go ahead and drop the steering column and check the ignition connections and linkage. Thanks Jeff.
