Anybody tried the $69 chip advertised on this site? They claim some serious MPG gains. I don't care about any power gains, a 4.6 is going to be a gutless little snake in a full-size 4X4 anyway, but some help in the gas burning area would sure be welcome.
I have not nor would I.
There is no 69$ wonder that will do what you want.
The general mileage range is around 14 to 15, no much more and often less.
Maybe you should consider some other vehichle.
Good luck.
I need 4wd this winter, record snow and cold. Any 4wd will be as bad as this Ford, I think. Just clutching at straws to save some gas. Not gonna happen, maybe. About what I thought, thanks anyway. All those "chip" ads seem to be too good to be true.
It is basically a 4.7K ohm resistor that tricks the pcm into thinking the incoming air (IAC) is 10 degrees cooler than it really is and richens up the air/fuel ratio. Worth about $0.79.
Basically, it's a can of snake oil in the middle of an ocean beach in North Dakota
So how does richening the mixture give you 4 more miles per gallon??????
The ad probably says... "up to" 4 mpg increase. You can also see "up to" 5 mpg increase if you train your right foot to accelerate slowly up to speed instead of launching from every start.
Have the instructions been translated ? Or are they still in Chinese ! Sounds like Snake Oil to me . If it tells the ecm it is colder , it will command more fuel . It may give a bit more power , but should use more fuel ,not less .
