I know the ford dealers either use Mercon or Mercon 5. I was contemplating using Swepco 714. Any thoughts???? Also Exactly how many Qrtz does the 4r100 hold? including the Torque converter???? Was also thinking about running a little bit deeper of a pan.
Mercon V here as well. I believe the stock tranny runs about 18 quarts. I don't remember exactly, but that seems to be what ai remember.
18 sounds right from bone dry to full. I had my tranny rebuilt last year and if I recall right I bought 20 qts and had a couple to spare. I run amsoil, I'm not sure what was in it before the rebuild but amsoil seems to run warmer than whatever was in it.

I would like to run this fluid because it has a great reputation and good company backing it secondly i plan on towing and wanted to have a lil extra fluid to prevent it from over heating. Thirdly why your badgering me on a public forum where i'm asking an opinions and thoughts is beyond me, was looking for thoughts and opinions not harassment. Thanks-
Mark is the guy that shuts everyone else up and tells us what we need to know not want to. Don't take his words harsh I would call him out resident expert... He helped engineer our transmissions and know what's best so I would listen to him before anyone else about your trans.
Motorcraft Mercon V has performed well for me, even in modified transmissions. I regularly send a fluid sample to the lab for testing and they say the fluid is performing well.
As for the deep pan....it does nothing for cooling. I have an ATS deep finned aluminum pan on one of my trucks and it doesn't help cooling at all. All it does is cost me more during fluid changes. If you want to cool your transmission fluid, your money will be MUCH better spent on a 6.0 cooler in place of your OE unit.

And I was thinking if I had a dollar for everytime Mark answered this ?. He is just matter of fact in his ways. And smart.
I see a lot of guys mention using merc v in the transmission and power steering. How about the transfer case?
Good question. If most are like me, never have touched it except when I first bought the truck and checked level, two years ago. Probably engage it 1-2 times a year. But I understand it takes atf, so Merc V.
