I'm having an issue opening the tailgate on my 2011 F250. I tried searching, but "failed".
I bought my truck used, and the tailgate has seen some "use". When I try to open it, just pulling the handle doesn't work. I have to apply pressure on the tailgate towards the front to get the latch to release. And this is only 50% successful. When it doesn't open, and I apply the pressure, I hear the latches "click" back closed.
Furthermore, with the tailgate open, I can lock and unlock the two side latches just fine, so I'm not thinking it is a linkage issue. I think I need to adjust the tailgate or locking mechanisms or something, but not sure what or how.
Have not seen too many problems with them but you can take the inside panel off the tailgate and get a good look at whats going on. Might be some adjustment somewhere in there.
When my spray in liner was installed it added enough thickness that I could feel the latches working a little harder. Something like this going on? You stated the tailgate has seen some *use*, is it bent? Does the gate need to be slammed in order for the latches to catch?
could simply need some lube on the latches and rods behind the access panel. I need to do mine once a year because it gets "sticky" spray some PB or Fluid Film and I'm good to go
Looking at the tailgate, something heavy was dropped on the left side, as the plastic cover is cracked and there is a little dent under the plastic. Furthermore, the gap on the left appears wider than the gap on the right.
This weekend I'm going to take the back panel off and see if I notice anything. And while I'm at it, I'll lube the mechanisms to see if that helps.
