Ok guys I have been giving my truck some love lately and now I am averaging 14 mpg doesn't matter if it is highway or city. I say this because when I let off of the gas it feels like the brakes are applied instead of just coasting. I know there are no frozen calipers ive compressed all pistons on all corners. could this be from a clogged ebpv and or tube and my gas mileage went up from 10 mpg after I installed my stacks. Does anyone have any suggestion or ideas on how to change upper and lower ball joints with out having a press handy. Any kinda ideas and advise on any of please fill free to type as much as you want
I'm curious about a relationship between ball joints and fuel economy......unless you feel like you have an alignment issue because of ones that are badly worn out (and if they're bad enough to cause alignment issues, they're also dangerous to be driving on). Just keep in mind that slapping in a new set of ball joints will likely cause further alignment issues and you'll have to send it to an alignment shop anyway.
The pistons in the calipers aren't USUALLY what cause the dragging brake issues.
I know 14 isnt bad but I would like to squeeze a couple more miles out of it and my lower ball joint on the driver side is pretty much done for so since I am replacing the bottom I am going to do the top and on the first I am doing the uppernand lower on the passenger side and then I am goingto do tierod ends and going and getting it alligned then in a few months new tires and good thing about sears lifetime so when I get new ti res I am going to take it back and done again
Would definitely check and grease the slide pins on the caliper mounts if you didn't do that when you were checking calipers. Also, make sure your front hubs are unlocked.
Haven't done the ball joints so no help to ya there.
you could rent a ball joint press from one of your auto parts stores,be careful to read install instructions that come with your new ball joints,or you can damage new balljoints during install.
