Thumping noise

I posted last night about intermittent intake valve leak, butone reply was correct I think that was misleading. The problem is in a 1983 F250 with a 6.9 at cold start idle it has no thump, but after getting up to operating temp I get a thumping coming through the intake, once it starts I can gently rev engine and it goes away and if I shut off and restart it is there again until I rev a couple of times. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be, the truck Sat for about three years.
