I have a 2002 f150 4.6L 4x4 auto with an airaid cold air intake, when i start it and let it run for a few minutes there will be a loud noise coming right out of the air filter, it also makes this same noise when i let off the gas at low speeds and come to a stop. It only does it then its cold a out about 40 degrees or colder and most of the time it will go away once it gets to operating temp unless its very cold out. Someone help it doesnt sound good. Thanx
What does the noise sound like? I've got an 02 F-150 with a 4.6 and it whistles when it's cold, between 1300-1400 rpm. It seems to idle ok, I've read that rough idle is a typical symptom of a bad IAC valve.
I haven't had a chance to figure out where the noise is coming from, could the IAC valve cause a whistling noise?
My '01 5.4l had this same noise. Only in the colder months. Went through an exhausting time trying to figure it out. Did pulley & bearing changes, alt bearings, belt change even replaced the water pump. Still had the noise. Upon a recomendation from this site I cleaned the IAC valve and the noise disappeared for a while. Replaced the IAC and no noise since.
These guys here will only steer you in the right direction. All deserve a round of applause.
Thanks.
i just bought my iac from autozone for about $65 im not sure if my problem is fixed i just installed it about 15 minutes ago and i have to wait until morning when its really cold to find out.
Lariat, please post back if changing the intake air control fixes the whistle.I have had an annoying whistle at several fixed Rpm ranges for a year and cant figure out what is causing it. The dealer couldnt figure it out either after many attempts.its real annoying, but hasn't caused any problems.
