Build some heavy duty brackets, one big pothole and its going flying.
Na, maybe another day when I'm bored and need something to do, but my friends and I made a few adjustments for it to sit up higher and made it a bit more sturdy. Its held on just fine.
For things like deer etc those are usually good to have, but thats it. In a small accident they can cause far more damage to the truck than a stock bumper. I'd rather have a bent bumper and small front end damage than a bent frame and destroyed radiator support.

a small accident would probably not be enough to bend the frame of a ford with one of the big replacement bumpers on it but how would you destroy the radiator support with one of them on there compared to a stock vehicle

The one's I've seen with bent frames are usually hit higher on the grille guard and it looks kinda like the guard itself works like a lever and bends the frame horns up. In those it's enough to bend the top into the radiator support, but that radiator support was probably getting messed up even without the guard.
On the other hand, the only ones that I've seen in the shop are rigs that require body work. They're mostly highway speed related hits.
Got some 3/16" steel, its probably a 4ft piece so me and my buddy are going to cut it into four pieces and double them up for the bracket coming straight from the bumper brackets. The only reason the grille guard is sagging forward is because the original bracket we used was just a cheap aluminum one from ace hardware, it seemed sturdy enough when I bought it, but with the weight of the grille guard on it, it flexes enough to sag the entire guard. I figure 3/8" of steel will be enough to keep it from sagging.

I'm not trying to say it would be highly likely to happen. However, Since the bumper and gaurd are probably stronger than the rest of the front end, the truck becomes the weak point, and the bumper pushes back into everything else.
