Suspension help

I bought my 1962 from a kid who lowered it by flipping the springs. Terrible ride quality. I would like it to have a lower more aggressive stance then stock but don't like bouncing down the road. I can find lowering ibeams for 65 and up but not my 62.

Any suggestions are welcome

Hey Sgt, welcome to FTE! If you wanna stay with the straight axle, you could get a dropped axle from this guy Ford Axles, Axle & Dropped Axle

If you wanna update to a more modern ride & handling, you could switch to one of the independent style suspension with rack & pinion steering, disc brakes, etc. like the Dodge Dakota kit from these guys 1961-1966 Ford F100 Trucks : Industrial Chassis Inc.

or one of the Mustang II style suspension kits. Some guys are also using the front suspension cradle from the '03 & newer Crown Vic but the track is wider so offset wheels must be used.

You can do a few searches and explore what some others have done. Hope this helps a bit.

Randy

For one thing, it is a 62 F100, not exactly the most modern suspension technology. Compared to today's stuff, it is bouncy and a terrible ride, stock.

I installed monoleafs up front and re-arched the rear springs to level it. Those put it about 2.5" lower than it was. The ride is seems just as good as stock like that.

So far, the one thing I've done that provided the most significant increase in comfort is to install more modern seats.

Call these guys:
Eaton Detroit Spring Home

You can easily do a 1, 2 or 3" drop just by getting new springs. They probably need to be changed at this point anyway on a 51 year old truck. If you need to go any lower than that, then you need to do a bit more work.
