i have a 90 ford e350 box truck (ambulance) . i dont think the torque converter is locking and unlocking correctly on the highway. what controls this? sensor on the gas pedal or what. I noticed, theres a cable that is not hooked up near the injection pump where the throttle cable goes. somewon told me it was the cruise control cable. this is a 7.3 diesel and IDK what transmission this is.. thanks..

prolly an E4od fully electronicly shifted, may have button on dash or end of the shift leaver, to deselect the OD,,when in 3rd or OD with light assell, just touch the break peddle, this will unlock the torkconverter,,if it is locking,,it will rev a small amount,,this tranny has the habit of shuddering,,(sliping tork converter) under light acselleration..they rarly go more than 100k b4 s***ing the bed..if it is shiftng hard it could be in limp mode..u can pull codes on this trany...at tranny shop..
yep, it does have a button on the dash for the OD, and has a sticker on the bell housing saying reman for ford. truck only has 79k miles so i dont know excatly when it was replaced.. so really it only happens during braking? i thought it was suppose to happen when your cruising at a set speed on the highway. what is a better replacement tranny than this, when this goes out? I dont know much about fords, I use it for hauling 4 wheelers and got it at a good price at auction, and thought it be maintained good because its an ambulance. thanks for the reply.

Frankly Id just get an upgraded E4OD and call it good, oh and little tidbit of advice fleet vehicles are very rarley well maintained just due to the simple fact that the drivers dont care and abuse them like no other, a lot of problems go unreported untill an inspection or it leaves the driver stranded (if I had a doller for every vehicle we brought in for a simple fix that the driver then basiclly said "well since its in here X Y Z is broken" I could afford a new truck)
