Has anyone here ever used a downstream turbo kit? My boss mentioned he was going to get one for his 454 chebrolet dually, and got me to thinking about one for one of my trucks.
For my diesel I could get a manifold mount turbo for the same price as a kit, but then I have to deal with more hot stuff in the engine compartment. I know a downstream would take a while to spool, but when towing, it wouldn't be a big problem.
I'd like feedback on these if anyone has them, or just opinions from people who know more about forced induction than I do
I can't ever recall hearing about someone who had done a rear-mounted turbo diesel, only gasoline-powered engines. I rather like the idea, especially for a light-pressure application when the factory manifold/header is well-designed, so you just hate to pull it out and throw it on the scrap heap.
A friend who did a "home brew" version with a Cologne V6 2.9 said the toughest part was getting the right oil pump for the return. I forget what he ended up with but he was on his 3rd or 4th different pump before he finally got one that was right.
