2000 Ford F250 PSD 4x4 186500 miles Was fueling up this afternoon and the truck started making a strange noise. It basically sounded like the old 6.9 diesel It ran a bit rough on the way home but did not seem to have any power loss and no smoke All gauges were normal The only thing different was the sound I know it is hard to diagnose a sound but you guys are good so I know someone will know.
That was my first thought so I went back to fuel station just to make sure. It is cold today and I left truck running while fueling and it started then.

OK, you may have hit on a possibility! It is possible that while fueling, it stirred up some sediment in the tank and possibly got the fuel screen plugged up. Is the fuel pump making any noise, or louder than before? Turn the key on with everything else shut off and listen for the pump. See how long it takes to shut off. A few seconds (less than 5) should be all it needs, especially if it was just running.
the fuel pump seems to be running longer but I really do not know for sure. I have never needed to listen for that sound. I can hear it click and then there is a noise that sound like it may be pressuring up and it takes about 10 to 15 seconds.
