I'm putting a 351W in my project. I know gas powered vehicles need back pressure, but also I know if you run small enough pipes it will give it back pressure. What are your ideas on running no mufflers? Also any muffler suggestions other than like that Flowmaster 40s and Glasspacks.
I loved the sound of a finely tuned race engine. I no longer hear the upper frequencys in music as a result. 63 years of loud explosive sounds, winding 2 stroke dirt bikes, dirt modifieds etc etc and my ears are shot. I still like the sound. However if I hear a rapping exhaust at 4AM every day as some jerk leaves his house for the early shift even I get pissed off and want to shoot the *******. Put a good muffler on the truck so that it has a nice crackle without the disturbing rattle that sometimes goes with really loud pipes.
It is a myth, 4 strokes don't need back pressure, 2 strokes need backpressure. Besides run a muffler of some sort unless you like getting stopped by the cops.
I still have not put a muffler on the 53 C600 MH but its just got the flathead in it and really isnt all that loud. that and the sound kink of fits the truck and I dont drive it around very often.
Around here all the Mustang GT guys upgrade their exhaust right after purchase. We picked our brand new GT mufflers up for $75 on craigslist - they sound great & flow well.
No mufflers: Good way to pi$$ neighbors off if you have neighbors. That said, IMO, exhausts sound better with a slight bit of non restrictive muffling than the rap of straight exhaust.
No one has mentioned turbo mufflers. I like them because they are inexpensive, give you a little sound without waking the neighbors or annoying the cops, and offer little backpressure. I used Walker turbos on my first truck and Sonic turbos on my current one. Both are good mufflers and totally street legal...
