I know moving the tank under the truck is a " fairly" common change. Can it be done and keep the filler opening in the stock location? Also, does that open up the cab a little to move the seat back any? I have the typical big boy syndrome with my 66, I can drive it but man a couple extra inches would be nice!

Hey SSL, some version of this question gets asked pretty often. A search will reveal countless threads of information about the topic. But the short answer is No, you can't move the tank under the bed and keep the filler in the stock location. That would require some kind of filler tube running from the cab all the way to wherever you mount the tank under the truck.....probably not too practical.
As for the extra room in the cab, you'll gain a few inches of storage where the original tank was located but the seat won't go any further back. If you need more room you'll have to go with a smaller steering wheel or join the gym.
As mentioned topic has come up on a number of occasions where member's have posted pic's of how they solved the filler neck issue. Depending upon the type of truck, a member, kstone, installed the filler neck in tailight on his styleside> link posted below. Another member posted picks of it coming out the rear just above the rear bumper. Also recall seeing pic where the filler neck was routed up thru the passenger side rear fender where the cap was recessed just below the top edge of the fender. Have seen a few where it was placed in the center of the bed???
