i have a 79 f150 with a 9 inch rear. i have to re-gear because, well the gears broke and came out of the side of the dif (the only thing that broke was the dif cover, but not the welded on back plate, the front one that bolts on). luckily i have another 9 inch with gears and whatnot i it i can use. so i was wondering how do i take the rest of the front plate that is bolted on. i have been told i need to take the axle shafts out first? if so, how do i get them out because i took my break drums off and took the 4 bolts out to take the axle shaft out, but it wont budge at all..

Go ahead and buy yourself the Ford 9" Rear End Rebuild movie from Bad Shoe Productions.
It's probably the best source for taking apart and rebuilding a Ford 9" Rear End online, and it's fairly cheap as well.
put the drum on backwards with all five or six nuts, put the nuts on only unitil the stud comes flush with the nut, then use the drum like a slide hammer, if you sit down with your legs either side of the diff housing you will get more leverage just be careful you dont smack yourself in the face because it realy hurts!
I've had them stick before but you really shouldn't have any problem popping them out just using your hands. I doubt you need a video or anything, they are pretty simple rear ends.
On thing that helps is taking a 2 lb or so ball peen and just tapping on the end of the axle before yanking it out. Quick jerks works better than brute strength in my experience.
Personally I don't see the point of rear gearing the axle thats in the trucks. If you broke a side gear and had chunks of it exit the broken cover, I am going to bet you money that very little from inside that center section is reuseable. If it torqued the housing hard enough to snap the front cover it quite possibly distorted the entire housing. Beyond that, what lead to the broken parts? how long have there been pieces of gear floating around in the housing?
If you already have a spare axle, I'd just swap the entire axle. Its probably going to be less work in the long run.
you would need to check the housing for straightness and thoroughly clean it first, if there were broken parts in it. Any metal left in the housing will eventually damage the new gearset as well.
